Science and art – Exhibition “Bloom” by Charlotte Gautier van Tour

Joelle

Charlotte Gautier van Tour explores the phenomenon of microalgae, also known as "bloom", which proliferate at high altitudes, causing snow to take on an ochre or even reddish hue.

This mountain "bloom" is still little understood by scientists. It occurs when snow melts and is described as "glacier blood".

The artist's "Bloom" exhibition at the Maison forte de Hautefour examines the aquatic history of the Alps and the fragility of these ecosystems, which are threatened by global warming.

Charlotte Gautier van Tour's works retrace the phenomenon of these microalgae, presenting us with evolving in situ installations that change under the effect of heat. Through her art, we become witnesses to this process and are invited to question its outcome.
